Humphries previews Stanford camp

Stanford will host one of Texas' top 2018 defensive back prospects at their Friday Night Lights camp this week in Isaiah Humphries. The trip will be Humphries' first to The Farm.

"I'd love to get an offer," Humphries said of his goal for the visit. "That would be great. I also want to check out the campus, see what it's like. Hopefully it's a great place that I'd love to go to school at. Hopefully it's everything I think it will be when I go out there."

If Stanford does offer, they'd vault into Humphries' top group of schools.

"I already have my whole top 10 picked out in my head," Humphries said. "I'm trying to fill in schools, fill in the blanks. An offer from them would definitely make the top three. That would make my decision easy and I'd be able to decide sooner. I might even commit (to my school of choice) before the season or during the season. If they give me an offer that would make everything easier for me."

Humphries said that Penn State (where his father played), Florida State and Oklahoma are also among his top choices.

"A great education is one thing (I'm looking for in a program)," Humphries said. "A great football team, great coaches that have my best interests at hand - coaches that treat me like family and coaches that really care about my development as a player and as a man. And also just a great student environment that keeps me out of trouble and helps me become a better person."

Stanford started recruiting Humphries in the spring. He's been in touch with his potential future position coach, Duane Akina, and his area recruiter, Tavita Pritchard.

"Coach Akina and Coach Pritchard came out to see me twice in the spring," Humphries said. "I expressed interest, starting sending them emails. It turned out well because they came out and saw me play, practice. They wanted me to come out for this (Friday Night Lights camp)."

The Cardinal's coaches have expressed their interest in Humphries' football skill set and their appreciation for his abilities in the classroom.

"They're saying first off they're excited that I have the grades to be able to get in to a school like that," Humphries said. "That puts me in an elite group of people, a very limited group of people that can even be looked at. They say that's a big plus. And they also like the way I play, the physicality, the range that I have, and my style of playing. They say they think I would fit the scheme and they want to keep moving forward."
