Stewart admitted, favors two

2016 New Jersey wide receiver Donald Stewart's recruitment is coming into focus after he received a major piece of his news about a potential college choice over the weekend.

"I talk to Coach Shaw usually about every week or so and on Saturday he told me to give him a call," Stewart said. "Then he informed me that I had been admitted to Stanford."

Stewart was able to gain admission as a result of significant effort in the classroom and in retaking standardized tests. The three-star standout was thrilled to learn that all of his work paid off.

"I don't think I should repeat what I said (when I found out)," Stewart laughed, "but I'll just say I was very, very excited and my parents were, too."

"(Coach Shaw told me that) he was very proud of me because he knew I've been working very hard, starting in the summer. I never gave up and he's just very proud of me and excited to have me on campus this weekend."

In addition to Shaw, Stewart maintains regular contact with his area recruiter, Peter Hansen, and his potential future position coach, Tavita Pritchard.

"He tells me how he likes my size and my speed and if I keep working hard I could possibly have a chance at playing as a true freshman, Stewart said of Pritchard's message.

Stewart will take his official visit to Stanford this weekend; he will visit Michigan, his other favorite, the following weekend.

"This is my fourth time (visiting Stanford) so I've pretty much seen the school even though I don't know my way around yet but I've been there a few times," Stewart said. "I can't wait to meet all the other commits and all the future commits and talk to Coach Shaw again."

The Paramus Catholic High School standout isn't certain what the deciding factor in his recruitment will be, but he could have a better sense after he takes his two trips.

"I'm still not sure right now," Stewart said. "I'm just going to visit these next two schools. These are my top two. Like, I absolutely love Michigan. So I'll just have to decide after both my official visits."

Stewart briefly discussed the aspects of his finalists that appeal to him

Stanford - "Great academics and great athletics. You can't go wrong with any sport if you go there. I know the soccer team is good, baseball team is good, swimming team is good. Just excellence in all areas is what stands out."

Michigan - "I absolutely love Michigan because my former head coach is up there, I have friends up there and it's just a great atmosphere and a great academic school."
